Nanchang Social Welfare Institute is a subordinate branch of Nanchang Ministry of Civil Affairs Bureau, it is a comprehensive institute responsible for caring for widowed and desolate senior citizens, and orphaned children as well as children with disability and illness. There are currently 97 staff members. The institute is located in the lower stream of Gan River, along the west river banks filled with peach blossoms. The institute takes over 3 hectare of land, and 20000 square meters of facilities and area usage.

The institute has gone through 800 years of historical changes and growth, and several name change, the current name of our institute was set in place in 1973. After the founding of “New China”, and especially since liberation, with the care and support from all levels of government and community, we have built the Nanchang Senior Retirement Home, and Nanchang Disability Children Rehab Center. Center’s facilities have been improving day by day. Senior exercise room, rehab training room, public baths, library and reading center, and the newly implemented automatic gas stove, heating room and electric sterilizer, the last two years, we have become a fully equipped learning, living, recreational facility. There are currently 250 beds in our senior nursing home, and there are 121 seniors being taken care of in our home.

Right now, the institute has taken in over 600 children. Recently, the style of care has progressed from the originally straightforward raising and caring, to a more precise raise, discipline and teach style of raising. Disabled and deformed children’s intelligence development and self manage care has been trained before the age of 2.

To allow the needy to live in a relaxing and comfortable environment, management staff and leaders pay great attention to the construction and design of the environment. In the past two years, the institute expanded green area to 9000 square meters. As a result, greeneries and plants can be seen in every corner on the institute. The garden planted with beautiful flowers and bushes, decorated with gazebos and patios, resembling a beautiful park. In 1998, it awarded the title of “Civilized Modeled Unit”, and in 1999, it was named as a designated open institution for visitors.
