Haikou Social Welfare Institute is a comprehensive charitable institution. First built in 1951, in 1992, municipal government invested 30 million RMB in allowing mass expansion of the institution. With a total area of 103 hectares, it has an area of 17 000 square meters of floor space. There are 700 beds, currently occupied by 110 elderly and 120 abandoned infants and disabled children. The institute is divided into Children’s welfare wing, elderly wing, anaphase security department, medical and rehab center, and community service center.

Haikou Social Welfare Institute has been through many years of construction and establishment, grown from a preliminary social welfare institute to provincial first rate welfare institute. It has also been designated as Hainan’s model welfare institute. It was awarded the title “Provincial Advanced Rehabilitation Unit for Disabled Individual” and also “Haikou City’s Garden District”.

In recent years, following our mission of “everything for children, and for children’s everything”, we have relentlessly followed “Children’s Welfare Institute Basic Guidelines”, enthusiastically learnt and taken experiences from our own country and foreign countries to explore new paths to development and progress. We strive to constantly improving children’s living conditions and environment, providing them with warmth from families and a fun childhood. We have also collaborated with “Half the Sky Foundation”, strengthening child care and education work, stimulating children’s physical and psychological development, actively developing rehabilitation for disabled children, by combining Asian and Western medical treatments, with a proven success on recovery rate.

Our institution has all the basic functions on care, medical treatment, nursing, rehab, education, recreation, and research. Open to the public, we have implemented new programs for self-sponsored individuals with disabilities and illnesses and seniors from all over the country whose family cannot provide them with proper care (especially in the bitter cold northern areas). Our Institute has a calm and relaxing environment, with well-equipped amenities. All departments have a full, precise and orderly service management system. It can provide occupants music, dance, arts, exercise, rehab, game and chess, tea culture, racquet sports and many other recreational services.
