June 1st Children¡¯s Day, 7 charitable foundation donating gifts for children

On May 30th, 2006, Ministry of Social Welfare and Social Affairs Department held a press conference for seven charitable foundations: China Disability Welfare Charitable Foundation, China Educational development Foundation, Chinese Literary Foundation, China Prevention Against AIDS Foundation, Chinese Minority Culture and Arts Foundation, COSCO Charitable Foundation, Beijing HuaXia Charitable Foundation, all contributed a total of 31.25 million in medical, education, and daily living support, as a present for Children¡¯s Day. Ministry of Civil Affairs Vice-minister Jiang Li, Ministry of Social Welfare and Social Affairs vice-director Zhang Shi Feng, China Center for Adoption Affairs Vice-Supervisor attended this news conference.

From this generous contribution, China Disability Welfare Foundation decided the first priority is to select children with severe hearing impairment from 100 Children SWI to be placed into hearing repair program, providing 100 artificial ear cochlea to ¡°Tomorrow Plan¡± free of charge, to be used on 100 children¡¯s specified surgeries; COSCO Charitable Foundation will donate 1million to ¡°Tomorrow Plan¡±, to be utilized in 50 children who will be operated on their congenital heart disease.

During the conference, Ministry of Civil Affairs Vice-minister Jiang Li reassured the significance and impact of the Charitable Foundation¡¯s support for these orphans, she said, ¡°Charitable Foundations has an unique advantage on fundraising, utilizing and managing social funding in helping underprivileged groups, it serves as a booster to accelerate philanthropic development. The seven charitable foundations that participated in this even has proven through actions, and provided the growth of orphans with a positive support. ¡°Vice-minister Jiang Li thanked the seven charitable foundation to donate such a precious present, hoping this event will be a turning point, and enhance the collaboration between Ministry of Civil Affairs, and charitable foundations and NGOs such as these, to focus on assisting orphans, to support social welfare development, and to create a better tomorrow for these relinquished children.
