“Love Project”

In order to help social welfare institutions improve nurture conditions, promote life quality of orphans and handicapped children and facilitate healthy development of the children, in 2007, the China Center of Adoption Affairs will continue to carry out content- abundant and form-various “love project” which will meet demands of orphans and handicapped children. We hope that adoption organizations and adoptive families both home and abroad who are willing to help orphans and handicapped children can participate actively. We will, according to the situation of social welfare institutions, make good use of donations and give response after the project.

Below is eight important projects planned to be carried out in 2007.
1. Milk-Preparation Room
　　Clear, healthy and nutritious food is the base of the infant’s lifetime health. Presently, nearly 300 social welfare institutions
do not have especial milk-preparation room. It is planned to help 30 child welfare institutions set up milk-preparation rooms in 2007. One milk-preparation room costs 8, 000 RMB, including a refrigerator, a sterilizing box, a water heater and an electromagnetic cooker. The whole project needs 240, 000RMB.

2. Rehabilitation Room
　　Early rehabilitation is with high significance to the lifetime development of handicapped children. Presently, nearly one third of social welfare institutions do not have integrated rehabilitation rooms. It is planned to help 30 social welfare institutions improve rehabilitation rooms. It costs 30, 000 RMB to purchase basic equipments of one rehabilitation room, including 25 rehabilitation equipments, such as parallel bars and wheelchair. The whole project needs 900, 000RMB.

3. Laundry
　　Presently, nearly 200 welfare institutions do not have integrated laundries. With lots of laundries everyday, it affects work efficiency. It is planned to help 30 social welfare institutions set up laundries. It costs 25, 000RMB to set up a large-scale laundry, including a 35kg large wash machine and a 25kg large spin-drier. It costs 15,000 RMB to set up a small-scale laundry, including a 10kg large wash machine and a 10kg large spin-drier. The whole project needs 650, 000RMB.
4. Infant-Culture Box
　　Lots of abandoned children received by the social welfare institutions are
premature, under-weight and sick infants; therefore, infant-culture box is an indispensable equipment to save their lives. Presently, there are more than 300 social welfare institutions being short of infant-culture boxes. It is planned to help 30 social welfare institutions purchase infant-culture boxes. It costs 7,000 RMB to get an infant-culture box. The whole project needs 210, 000RMB.
5. Exercise Room
　　To set up a safe exercise room with lots of toys so that orphans and handicapped children can develop their sense organ at playing which will do good to their physical growth and psychological health. However, there are some social welfare institutions do not have exercise rooms. It is planned to help 30 social welfare institutions to set up exercise rooms. It costs 20,000 RMB to set up an exercise room, including 15 activity facilities, such as ocean ball, swing, seesaw, and toy bricks. The whole project needs 600,000 RMB.

6. Occupation Training
　　Old Children in social welfare institutions is a disadvantage group in the job-seeking competition because of low education level and bad adjustment ability. It is necessary to provide the children with training opportunities, such as cooking, hairdressing, and traditional Chinese massage so that they can make a living and enter into society. It is planned to help 30 old children to have occupation trainings which cost 3500 RMB per person. The whole project needs 105, 000RMB.

7. Fosterage Project
　　Family is the best environment for orphans and handicapped children to grow up healthily. Fosterage is a good way to help children return families and society. It is planned to help some orphans and handicapped children with fosterage fees which is 4800RMB per person.

8. Grants
　　In order to encourage orphans and handicapped children to study hard and be self-reliant, it will promote their study enthusiasm to set up excellent student grants. It is planned to help some children who have been accepted by technical secondary school and above with grants. For technical secondary school: 7, 000 RMB per person * two years; for technical high school: 12, 000 RMB per person * three years.
