Schedule for the 2006 Childcare Training for Social Welfare Institute Staff

In order to improve the quality of childcare in our social welfare institutes, our department has scheduled Childcare Training for Social Welfare Institute Staff for 2006. The training will include the following six programs: Director Training, Caretaker Training, Educational Training for Teachers, Nutritionist Training, Training on Utilization of the ¡°Children¡¯s Growth Chart,¡± and Training on Post-operational Rehabilitation for Children with Special Needs. The plan is to provide training for 660 staff members from the social welfare institutes. The total costs for this training is estimated to be RMB 1,460,000 and funds are still being raised. We greatly appreciate and will continue to appreciate additional support from adoption agencies and adopting families on this training. We hope, with your support, we will be able to easily complete the implementation of this program in 2006. The success of this training will greatly benefit children in orphanages, including those with special needs. Agencies or individuals that would like to join our efforts can choose a training program(s) to sponsor. Thank you for your concern and support.

Training for Directors Director Training The training will be based on ¡°Guidelines of Childcare in the National Social Welfare Institutes.¡± With this training, the trainees should become familiar with, and have a better grasp of, general standards and criterions of social welfare institute management 3 2 50 1200 Accommodation including meals, training materials, allowances for trainers, training venue, etc. 12
Training for Caretakers and Teachers Caretaker Training
The training will utilize the facility of the Children¡¯s Rehabilitation Camp of Xinqiao Hospital of the Third Medical School and the guidelines of ¡°Certified Infant Care Providers¡± stipulated by the Ministry of Labor. The caretakers will receive training on the basic knowledge and skills on infant care. All trainees will receive a certificate of ¡°Certified Infant Care Provider¡± (Chinese Children Adoption International (CCAI) of the U.S. is going to sponsor this training.)

Educational Training for Teachers
The training will invite professional teachers, who specialize in the education of younger children, and utilize the facility of the training camp of Beijing City Children¡¯s Welfare Institute. Staff from orphanages that have 20% of their children older than 3 years, but do not have professional teachers, will receive training on methods and skills of early developmental education of children in this particular age range. 7 2 40 2000 Same as above 16
Training for Medical Staff Nutritionist Training
The training will focus on children¡¯s nutritional needs and providing them with a well-balanced diet.
Fifty staff members, with various medical backgrounds, from 50 social welfare institutes, will be trained as junior nutritionists and receive certification.

Training on the Utilization of the ¡°Children¡¯s Growth Chart¡± The training will be held at the training camp of the Beijing City Social Welfare Institute and assistance will be provided by the Beijing Pediatric Research Institute. Medical staff members, from 50 social welfare institutes, will receive training on methods of evaluating of children¡¯s development. Training will also be provided on diagnoses of diseases and early stage intervention. 5 1 50 1200 Same as above 6
Trainings on Post Operational Rehabilitation for Children with Special Needs
The training will collaborate with the CCAA¡¯s ¡°Tomorrow Plan¡± project in an effort to secure the results of the surgeries provided to children with special needs. Medical staff members from social welfare institutes all over the country will receive training on rehabilitation skills. (CCAI is going to sponsor this training.)
